What silicone render is
Silicone render is a thin-coat finish used as part of a compatible render system. We apply a textured silicone topcoat over a mesh-reinforced base coat. The colour and texture sit on top; the mesh and base coat give the system its strength.
The finish
Our usual finish is a fine texture — smooth from a distance, with subtle character up close. Once the work is agreed, you can pick four colours from the chart and we mix samples so the final choice is made at the home. See colours and finishes.
The specification and design are agreed in advance, then applied by hand to achieve the look your property deserves.
What happens to the existing walls
Before we quote, we look at the existing surface and any render already on the walls. Sound backgrounds may need only the preparation required for the chosen system. Loose, hollow or badly failed areas may need removing or repairing first. If the existing finish is pebbledash, start with whether you can render over it.
There is no single preparation method that suits every property. We check this at the property rather than assuming from photographs or measurements alone.
Access and weather
Scaffold, extensions, conservatories, narrow access and sloping ground can all affect how the work is approached and priced. External rendering is also weather dependent, so the timing of individual coats can change if conditions are unsuitable.
