What is external wall insulation?
An external wall insulation system adds an insulation layer to the outside of suitable walls. The insulation is then covered with reinforcing mesh and render, with a silicone finish for the colour and texture. Render-only work is covered on silicone rendering.
The exact system and thickness cannot be decided from the size or style of the property alone. We need to look at the existing wall construction and the details around the property first.
What we look at
Adding insulation changes the depth of the outside face of the wall, so details around windows, doors, rooflines, pipes, vents and other fittings may need dealing with as part of the work.
The existing walls also need looking at before deciding whether an EWI system is suitable and what preparation is required.
Why the estimator only gives a guide
You can select EWI in the online estimator for an initial indication, but it will always be marked for review.
If the indicative figure is useful, send the estimate reference and photographs of the property. We can then talk through the system, meet you at the property if needed, and give you a fixed quotation.
VAT and final specification
The fixed quotation will set out the proposed system and the VAT treatment that applies to the work. We do not rely on the provisional online estimate for either of these.
