Do You Need Planning Permission for Rendering?

Many routine exterior-rendering projects do not require a planning application, but the answer can change with location, building status and the extent of the visual alteration.

Check before changing the exterior

Listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and conditions attached to previous permissions can all affect what is allowed. External wall insulation may also alter wall thickness, eaves and boundary relationships.

Practical approach

Check the property’s status and ask the relevant local planning authority when uncertain. Vale Render can discuss the physical project, but formal planning confirmation should come from the authority or an appropriately qualified adviser.
